Former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa has advised Nigerians to seek divine intervention in the quest for the freedom of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram rather than resort to rallies and protests.
Bafarawa, a PDP chieftain noted that the traumatic experience of the innocent school girls has gone beyond organising rallies and protests across the globe rather a collective prayer for spiritual intervention.
Speaking through his Media Assistant, Malam Yusuf Dingyadi, Bafarawa in a chat with Sunday Sun in Sokoto, advised Nigerians and the global community to stop painting the incident as a religious one.
The former governor also advised Nigerians to put politics aside and look at the heinous act by the Boko Haram as a crime against the nation and humanity irrespective of religious and region affiliation.
He noted that the recent acts of terrorism in Nigeria by the Boko Haram have soiled the nation’s reputation.
Bafarawa who insisted that the recent waves of demonstrations across the country was not the best option, maintained that, the Boko Haram ideology is a disaster not only to Nigeria but also Islam as a religion which the group claimed to be working for.
According to him, “Boko Haram is not working for any religion hence Islamic teaching respects the sanctity of human lives contrary to the activities of terrorists.
“The matter of national security affects everyone, therefore, the issue of security should be seen as everybody’s business. We have to support the government and our security agencies to enable them face the challenges squarely.
“All we need now is collective prayers for spiritual and divine intervention. Everyone of us, both Christians and Muslims should stand up and pray for the safe release of these girls.
“The psychological trauma which these innocent girls have been subjected to since their abduction alone should be enough reasons why Nigerians should keep protest away at this material time and call for national prayers for spiritual intervention,” Bafarawa advised.
