Eagles’ reject, Uche, scores 14th goal

•Fires Villarreal into Europa League
Out-of-favour Super Eagles’ striker, Ike Uche has contin­ued to make bold statements that he deserves a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2014 World Cup billed to kick off in Brazil next month.
The Villarreal of Spain di­minutive forward whose ex­clusion from Coach Stephen  Keshi’s 23-man provisional list has been a major discourse among football fans and ana­lysts grabbed the winner as his team defeated Real Soceidad 2-1 on the final match day of the 2013/14 La Liga season.
Uche profited from a Giovanni Dos Santos assist to score the Yellow Submarine’s second goal of the day at Esta­dio Municipal de Anoeta yes­terday.
It was Uche’s 14th league goal of the season.
The 30-year-old has now scored in each of his last two appearances for Villarreal af­ter scoring just once in his pre­vious 13 games.
Yesterday’s victory means Villarreal will compete in next season’s Uefa Europa League.
The El Madrigal club ended the season in sixth place on the league standings with 59 points from 38 matches.
