Kano gets committee on Ebola virus

Kano State Government has set up a committee to strategise on how to prevent the spread of Ebola virus to the state. The committee was set up in the wake of the death of a Liberian, who had the virus, in Lagos. Kano State Governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, during a meeting with Kano elders at Government House, said the committee was expected to present its report on Wednesday, next week, and urged...
citizens of the state to avoid the risk of Ebola virus by paying more attention to sanitation and personal hygiene as well as reporting health problems to the nearest authority for immediate action. He stated that his administration had concluded plans to recruit more medical doctors from abroad to widen access to health services, adding that the government was providing facilities and medical consumables in health centres across the state. He also said the government was designing new ways of tackling female suicide bombing recorded recently in the state, pointing out that the new tactics adopted by the insurgents had caused colossal loss of lives and property. Kwankwaso said his government, the Kano Emirate Council, security agencies and the general public must work together to address the issue, stressing that people should not hesitate to report any suspicious person and objects to the nearest security agents in their own interest. The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, lamented the insecurity bedevilling the state and the nation, saying the situation could be tackled if the people were adequately enlightened and provided with jobs.
