The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari has opened up on his impeachment and reinstatement, assuring that he would do everything possible to ensure that the game do not suffer.
Speaking yesterday, he said though certain decisions were taken in his absence, including the lifting of the ban on certain stakeholders, Maigari said that he will accept the decisions taking in his absence. He spoke on many other issues.
His feelings on resumption
“What is on my mind right now is football development in Nigeria. We must put our acts toge...
ther to develop the game. For me, been out of office is part of life. The best thing is to always see turbulence as one of those challenges of life. The only difference is the way one manages the situation. Football is part of my life and I will do everything possible to protect the game.”
On Security operatives escorting him
“They are here to provide security to everybody, including the journalists. For your information, there is no m more problem. As you can see, I exchanged pleasantries with all when I entered my office. I know very well that football is a team game. Sometimes, the players kick each other, but after the game, there will be handshake. Moving the game forward is a collective responsibility.”
On resignation
“Somebody who resigned cannot sit on the table. If I had resigned somebody would have taken my office. But think of it, is it not the person that is in the office that should resign. You cannot resign outside the office.”
Relationship with Umeh
“He is my first vice president. We remain friends and colleagues in and out of office. The good thing about football is that love, unity and friendship will continue. I have sat twice with the vice president basically on personal issues between two of us. I have also reached out to other colleagues. By greeting them when I came into the office means that everything is normal.”
Lifting the ban on stakeholders
“You see, as colleagues, I want to tell you that I agree with whatever decisions they must have taken in my absence. I don’t believe my colleagues did the wrong thing. What I have in mind now is to bring peace to the football family. I want to achieve my set target.”
The NFF election
“I don’t want to be seen to be running a one man show. What I have resolved is to sit down and talk with other board members. We are going to take decisions on these issues based on what is right or wrong. We are actually running short of time. We must ensure that every interested Nigeria obtains form for the election. I intend to propose to the board to extend the window. On August 26, we will decide our faith.”
Keshi’ contract
“Naturally, I always await the decision of the technical committee on the way forward for Keshi, especially now that we are constrained by time.”
Falconet performance at the World Cup
“Let me say congratulations to all Nigerians, especially those passionate about this game. I commend the girls for doing Nigeria proud.”
