Ebola: Doctor, others buried in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, has said that, the remains of Dr. Iyke Enemuo, who reportedly died of Ebola virus and the woman, who died on Wednesday at the quarantine centre, have interred in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday. Dr. Parker disclosed this yesterday, while briefing journalists on the outbreak  in Port Harcourt. He said that the dreaded Ebola virus  was being managed by the state gove
rnment, having
identified about 98 percent of about 360 people who had both primary and
secondary contacts with the late Dr. Iyke Enemuo.
He disclosed that a woman, who was on admission at Good Heart Hospital, in Port Harcourt, where Dr. Enemuo was also admitted, died on Wednesday, from cardiological complications, having developed Ebola-related symptoms.
“We can’t say that she died of Ebola. She was a cardiac patient. Her condition was complicated by Ebola”.
Acche lady and Chinyere, late Dr. Enemou’s younger sister were both on admission at the Ebola Isolation Unit at Oduoha, in Emohua Local Government Area.
He added, however, that
another woman was admitted at the isolation treatment centre at Oduoha, on Wednesday, for what he described as “a probable case”.
He stated that the result of the test conducted on her will be known later on Thursday afternoon.
“The death of the woman is deeply regretted and that is why we are saying that any person who had primary or secondary contact with the Late Dr. Enemuo should quickly report themselves to our medical personnel or contact us through our dedicated help lines.
“Although, she was admitted at the Good Heart Hospital for cardiac challenges, her case after she developed feverish conditions was not reported to us on time.
“Our treatment centre at Oduoha is very functional. We have about 40 doctors and nurses working at our treatment centre. We have also received encouragement and support from the private sector”, he emphasized.
“Shell, Chevron, and Schlumberger have donated materials to the Rivers State government. The Nigerian National Liquefied Gas, NLNG, Company, has also signified its willingness to assist us with some materials”.
He dispelled rumours that the late Dr. Enemuo’s wife who is currently being treated at the national treatment centre, in Lagos, is dead.
