2015: Minister warns politicians over inflammatory comments

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, has warned that politicians who make inflammatory statement will be arrested and prosecuted.

He gave the warning yesterday in Lagos, while speaking with journalists at the launch of a book: Watch the Watcher: A Book of Remembrance of Obasanjo Years, written by Mr. Yinka Odumakin.
The minister frowned at a statement credited to a leader of one of the opposition parties calling on their supporters to go to polling centres in 2015 with charms, cutlasses, and guns, among others.
Adesiyan said the import of such call was that such leader did not care about making people’s wives widows and their children fatherless. He said the government would not condone such inciting statements.
His words: «Well, I am warning anybody who makes inflammatory statement or anything that is mutinous. Such person will be arrested and prosecuted. Anybody that calls for revolution will be consumed by that revolution; Nigeria belongs to all of us.
“There is nobody that is untouchable, let them do it, I have said it now, let them do it now, they can do it in the past. Anybody who does it, no matter how highly placed he is, will be arrested and prosecuted. Nigerians would have seen what they are saying, they are trying to make a lot of propaganda to cow the government down, nobody can do it.
“They have been in government before, they’ve done it before, they’ve seized power in an unholy manner, and they have done what they wanted to do.
I don’t know what remains of them to start ganging up to say they want to capture power.
“So, whoever says it would pay for it and I am saying it, they would pay for it. This country is established by law and law must take its course.”
