Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it is prepared for a presidential debate with the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Addressing newsmen yesterday
on preparations for today’s presidential convention, National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, said the sole presidential candidate, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was prepared for issues-based debate with whoever emerged as APC presidential candidate. Metuh said: “ It is our prayer that after our presidential convention, whoever emerges as APC candidate will be ready for a debate on who is the best to lead this country to unity, stability and prosperity. We shall be ready for a debate.” Metuh added that based on the achievements of President Jonathan, the party was confident that he would defeat a combination of the two leading presidential aspirants of the main opposition party, General Muhammadu Buhari and former vice president Atiku Abubakar. “We have a very good product to sell to Nigerians. Jonathan will win the 2015 presidential poll based on his popularity. We are today sending notice to the opposition party, the APC to expect a crushing defeat at the poll. In view of our confidence, preparedness and the popularity of our candidate, we declare and urge the APC to put forward its two frontline aspirants in one pot, namely: Buhari and Atiku as joint presidential candidates with their collective credentials and followership to face our President, Jonathan.” On preparation for the party’s presidential convention expected to hold today and tomorrow, Metuh disclosed that about 373,000 delegates were expected to elect acting National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mu’azu as substantive chairman today. The same delegates will also elect Wale Oladipo and Adewale Adeyanju, who have been serving in acting capacity as national secretary and auditor respectively of the party.
