Ondo PDP executive surrenders to Mimiko

Some members of the Ondo State executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have finally resigned membership of the Ebenezer Alabi-led state chapter of the party.
The leadership of the party in Ondo State had kicked against an arrangement, which conceded the control of the party structure to a new entrant and Ondo State governor, Dr. Segun Mimmiko.
The dissolution of the state chapter of the party by the nationa
l leadership of the party has led to litigation, as the Alabi-led executive instituted a suit, challenging its dissolution.
But in a “Letter of Resignation,” dated December 2, 2014 and addressed to the National Chairman of the ruling party, Adamu Mu’azu, four members of the Ondo State executive premised their decision to quit the Alabi-led executive on the trouble shooting initiative of Senate President, David Mark, the need to ensure maximum support for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the forthcoming general elections and to maintain unity within the party.
Members of the state executive, who resigned from their positions, were Mr. Wemimo Olaniran, Mr. Yomi Akinfemiwa, Adeduro Charles and Akindulureni Sampson, state financial secretary, state legal adviser, state vice chairman and state auditor, respectively.
The letter addressed to Adamu Mu’azu read in part: “We the under listed members of the Working Committee of the PDP, Ondo State, wish to humbly convey to you and the esteemed members of the National Working Committee of our great party, our decision to resign as officers of the Ondo State executive of the PDP based on the following reasons:
“That given recent developments in the state chapter of our dear party, there is the compelling need for proper harmonisation of the various interests that have cropped up especially as agreed by leaders of the party at both state and national levels during meetings that were ably chaired by the president of the Senate and chairman of the National Assembly, Senator David Bonaventure Alechenu Mark;
“The need to ensure maximum mobilisation of the great people of Ondo State and indeed, the entire South West zone, to ensure deserved victory for Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, in the forthcoming general elections;
“ The need to maintain unity within the party.”
“We thank all party members and leaders for their understanding and cooperation.”
