Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has vowed to pursue his case against last Monday’s gubernatorial primary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), in Lagos State to its logical conclusion.
Addressing his supporters at his Ikeja GRA campaign office, yesterday, Obanikoro said his decision to challenge the result of the gubernatorial primaries was based on his conviction that it was manipulated and must be cancelled.
He explained that after the primaries, he petitioned the PDP headquarters outlining the irregularities, but after waiting for 48 hours, without any response from the party headquarters, he decided to file a case against the party at a Federal High Court.
“The 48 hours timeline stipulated by the PDP Electoral Guideline to address our appeal has elapsed without a response from the party.
In the light of this development, we have proceeded to the Federal High Court, Abuja to seek redress over the outcome of last Monday’s PDP primaries.
“I urge all our teeming supporters to remain steadfast. We will pursue this to a logical conclusion and justice will be done,” he said.
While insisting that the governorship primaries was marred by irregularity, the former Minister noted that “there was an election on Monday, having seen the outcome of the senatorial election on Monday, where they fielded candidates, we fielded candidates, we won all the seats, they became desperate. They have never won election.”
Obanikoro added that after the primaries, a lot of people have been calling and appealling to him, but “this is not about begging, the right thing must be done.”
He said the PDP must begin to do things right.
“I stand for a greater Lagos. Anything that will derail that greater Lagos, we will fight it. What we are saying is very clear. We are saying that in our party, power belongs to the people. This fight is not about me. It is about the soul of our party,” Obanikoro stated.
