Boko Haram: 30 women give birth at IDPs camp in Borno

No fewer than 30 preg­nant women among the displaced persons from some communities in Borno captured by Boko Haram and now taking refuge at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) camps in Maiduguri, the state capital, have been delivered of their babies, an of­ficial said.

Chairman, Committee on the IDP’s at the Government Girls Secondary School Maiduguri camp, Alhaji Babagana Mah­moud said the women, mostly from Bama, were delivered of their babies at different times and dates. He said there are a to­tal of 4200 women and children that fled Bama in the wake of at­tack on the town by Boko Haram in October, adding that at least 30 of those pregnant have given birth. Mahmoud said about 20 IDPs women who are pregnant were expected to deliver soon at the camp, adding that gov­ernment has set up a committee on safe-motherhood in various camps to assist women before, during and after delivery.
“There are health workers at the camp who regularly check the health condition of the IDPs because we are aware of the con­dition and trauma they’ve under­gone before finding their way to Maiduguri.
So we provide adequate health services to them and that’s why we hardly record any case of complications among them especially during and after deliv­ery,” he disclosed.
